by the Canterbury Horticultural Society and highly recommended by international travel guidebooks, Rapaura is the realisation of the vision and creativity of two very dedicated people.
When Fritz and Josephine Loennig purchased 64 acres of bush and grazing land in the Tapu Valley in the early 1960's, little did they realise that Rapaura would one day attract international visitors.
Today, almost 40 years further on, our visitors come from countries all around the world and many have returned again and again. New Zealanders too; and some who visited as children themselves are now bringing their families to Rapaura.
The present owner, Sally Sank, is dedicated to the ongoing creation and nurturing of Rapaura according to Fritz and Josephine's vision, believing that 'The best Garden is a well-kept wilderness'.

Awarded ‘Gardens of Distinction’ by the Canterbury Horticultural Society, Rapaura was one of the initial 12 gardens to receive this award. |
